PRIVATE PRACTICE

ARC Psychological and Counseling Services is a provider of mental health services to clients in the Central Newfoundland area. The company operates from a central location easily accessible to the general public. We are governed by the standards of professional conduct of the Newfoundland Labrador Board of Examiners in Psychology.

COUNSELING AND MEDIATION

As registered psychologists, we provide assessment and counseling to clients and their families using a problem solving approach and working with the individual's perception of their life stressors. We are able to help clients deal with conflict in their families by providing skills to facilitate communication. We also provide martial counseling/mediation with couples who need to work through relationship issues. Through individual counseling, we work with the individual to increase their self awareness and improve relationships with others. We also work with clients who are experiencing depression as a result of substance abuse or other addictive behaviors.

ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING DISABILITIES AND BEHAVIOR DIFFICULTIES

We provide comprehensive Assessment in the diagnosis of children and adults with Learning Disabilities such as Dysgraphia, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. We also provide assessment and interventions for behavior difficulties in children and youth.

As professional Psychologists we are committed to maintaining the confidentiality and safeguarding each client's privacy and dignity.

AVAILABILITY OF SERVICES

Our services are available from Monday to Friday for day appointments. Special arrangements may be made for evening appointments. Emergency appointments are available on weekends.

As professional Psychologists, we are governed by the standards of professional conduct of The Newfoundland Labrador Board of Examiners in Psychology. We are committed to maintaining your confidentiality and safeguarding your privacy and dignity. Our staff will remain respectful, professional, and empathetic in providing active care.

Fees

You will be fully advised on your first visit about therapy fees and payment. We work with Employee Assistance programs and Health Insurance Companies who provide coverage for Mental Health Services.

Availability

Our services are available from Monday to Friday for day appointments. Special arrangements may be made for evening appointments. Emergency appointments are available on weekends.

PROGRAMS

Managing Social Anxiety

Many people experience debilitating social anxiety which prevents them from moving forward in their lives to take on responsible and make important decisions. This program consists of six to eight weekly or bi-weekly sessions to help clients overcome social anxiety by giving them skills to use in stressful situations and to help influence their thinking in a positive way.

Anger Management

Through assessment the client will learn to be awareness of the degree anger influences their interactions with others. They will learn to monitor the physical symptoms and positively influence their thinking to gain greater control over emotions. Overcoming Depression

Depression is sometimes called the common cold of emotional problems because most people have experienced it at some time in their lives. According to a study entitled Study: Depression and work impairment conducted by Statistics Canada in 2002 released in The Daily Friday January 12, 2007, it is estimated that 79 % of people suffered from depression which interfered with their ability to work to some extent. To view the article click here. This program provides clients with a number of sessions to help them to improve their thinking and gain a greater sense of control over their moods. Through an identification of symptoms and an understanding how thinking affects how one behaves, the client can work through many issues and learn better copping skills to build resistance to depression.
